TEDx communities turned “Inside Out”

In the past few months, there’s been a tremendous response from the TEDx community to 2011 TED Prize winner JR’s Inside Out Project.

Launched at TED2011, Inside Out is a global participatory art project to transform messages of personal identity into public art. Thus far over 40,000 individuals from all corners of the globe have used the project to take a stand and to share their personal stories with the world.

From Tokyo to Athens, Karachi to Lisbon, TEDx communities have been part of this movement, using the platform to talk about issues of importance to them. Some highlights:

TEDx Karachi called attention to the issue of discrimination against minority communities in Pakistan.

Through their group action, TEDxAveiro called attention to the unknown faces and stories of the city.

TEDxLisboa used Inside Out to shared the stories of senior citizens in their city.

TEDxAcademy focused their action on the truth that is seen in the eyes of immigrant children in the city.

TEDxHomer shared the stories of its sea captains, honoring them as the heart of their community’s economic life.

TEDxAmoskeagMillyard used their group action to challenge people’s assumptions about their neighbors, to bring together their community.

There are dozens more actions being planned around the world from Amman to Berlin, Belgrade and Dubai.
