Meet our TEDxYouthDay Reporters: Serena Chao
TEDxYouthDay is this month! Almost 100 events will be taking place around the world during the weekend of November 17-18, focusing on youth and youth issues. There are also a number of TEDxYouthDay Reporters around the world who will be reporting on the action.
Aida is 16 and lives in Ontario, Canada. She is reporting on TEDxYouth@Toronto in Canada. Follow her dispatches from the event on the TEDxYouthDay website.
What made you want to get involved with TEDxYouthDay?
The main reason why I wanted to get involved with TEDxYouthDay was the amount of inspiration that I gained from watching TEDTalks from my home computer screen. I reasoned out that if I enjoyed it this much alone at home, then it’d be an even greater experience to share it with current and new friends.
What about TEDxYouthDay do you most look forward to?
The part about TEDxYouthDay that I look most forward to is not only the talks themselves because of their insightful ideas, but also the ability to share this day with other youth who are likewise open-minded.
What do you think youth today are doing to get involved in the world?
I think that the youth today are taking bigger and more ambitious steps to get involved in the world than ever before. Youth are stepping up and showing their capabilities and that they can achieve anything that they put their hearts to.
Who inspires you?
Who inspires me? My inspiration comes from everyone who has followed their dreams. Everyone who has done their best, achieved their dream, and continued on the path that they wanted to go. I don’t take in inspiration from anyone specific because everyone gives off a certain vibe and amount of it for different people to take in.
What is something you’d like to do before you’re 80?
Something I’d like to do before I’m 80—I want to be able to travel the world, every continent, even Antarctica. To experience the cultures, the diversity, the differences, that’s what I love about the world.
Tell us something interesting about yourself!Something interesting about myself is that I am certified snowboard instructor and an aeronautical radio operator (not actually, but I have the license!)
