The global TEDxWomen community

From the TEDxWomen blog:

It’s awe inspiring to think about all the women  and men joining us all across the world for today’s TEDxWomen. There are over 100 events on every continent, in every time zone, enabling thousands of people to gather in community and experience the TED talks taking place in New York and Los Angeles, as well as their own local talks. We are amazed by the energy of all of our TEDx organizers and their dynamic, diverse communities.

Picture the women of TEDxNASAJSCWomen, gathered at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. They’ll be highlighting women speakers in the realms of  engineering innovation, new scientific discoveries, and perspectives from space, including Julie Robinson, chief scientist for the ISS Program who will talk about experiments that can’t be done on earth including Dr. Keiko Nakamura-Messenger, the first Japanese female to the South Pole and discoverer of two new minerals!

Picture the women of TEDxBuslimWomen in Tripoli, Libya, which will actually take place tomorrow. They’ll hear from six local speakers on the theme of “be inspired.”

Picture the women of TEDxDirahWomen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, many of them students at King Saud University. Local speakers will include a library director, a researcher of biotechnology, and a writer on special education.

Picture the women of TEDxVasatanWomen in Stockholm, gathering in an old church that has been reshaped into a working office for Swedish entrepreneurs, and those of TEDxAmsterdamWomen, gathering at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

Picture the women of TEDxDaLuz in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the women of TEDxEwhaWomen in Seoul, South Korea.

Picture all of us, joining together to explore “ideas worth spreading” from some of the world’s most innovative, engaged, and charismatic leaders. It’s a genuinely global community and a groundbreaking moment. We’re so honored to be the catalyst for all of these conversations.

Watch TEDxWomen with your community

At Thursday’s TEDxWomen, a wide range of amazing women, and a few good men, will speak onstage in New York and Los Angeles. And you can take part wherever you are—by joining in a range of amazing events and happenings.

Attend a TEDxWomen watch party. All over the world, amazing TEDx organizers have been planning events around the livestream — and they are just waiting for smart, engaged people like you to join in the conversation. While the main focus of TEDxEwhaWomen, in Seoul, South Korea, will be watching the TEDxWomen livestream, the event will also highlight local voices. The program will also be made available in Korean. In Amsterdam, TEDxAmsterdamWomen will convene at the Van Gogh Museum. The diverse program of speakers include Kelly Cutrone, founder of PR firm People’s Revolution, and terrorism expert Jessica Stern. At TEDxDupontCircle in Washington, D.C., live performances will introduce and punctuate speakers from the TEDxWomen livestream.

You can watch the TEDxWomen livestream.

And follow our Twitter feed, #TEDxWomen, where bloggers, activists, media personalities, and others will be adding their voices to the chorus.

TEDx Q & A: TEDxAtlantaWomen

Lewis Perkins is the organizer of TEDxAtlantaWomen, a TEDx event hosted around the webcast of TEDxWomen that takes place in Atlanta, Georgia on December 1st.

Is this your first TEDx event?

No. We also hosted a TEDx event around TEDWomen last year.

Why did you sign up to host a TEDxWomen event?

Because I co-hosted an event around TEDWomen last year and had great time and met great people.

What TEDxWomen speaker are you most excited about and why?

Jennifer Siebel Newsom because I saw her documentary Miss Representation and think she is doing great work.

What are you most excited about for your event and why?

The amazing women (and men) we have gathered in Atlanta.  A real collective.

The theme of TEDxWomen is “The Conversation Continues”. What “conversation” would you like to see highlighted more in mainstream media? What are people not talking about that deserves a voice?

The ability for men to embrace their feminine and learn from women on how to better lead, love, learn and live.
